Meet Mike
Michael (Mike) Duggan, an avid trail runner and father, has travelled the world with his family to explore & experience trail running’s great challenges. As the past President of the Trail Running Association of Queensland, Australia (TRAQ) and the National Working Body Coordinator who successfully launched Australia’s first trail running peak body, Mike has been instrumental in promoting the sport and fostering support of the whole trail running community in Australia. Mike is a current member of the International Trail Running Association’s (iTRA) Steering Committee and leads iTRA’s global Olympic and Paralympic Campaign.
Mike and his family live in Brisbane, known for its natural beauty and sustainability. Brisbane provides an ideal backdrop for showcasing trail running on the global stage. In 2022, Mike launched the Trail Running 2032 campaign—a grassroots initiative aimed at getting trail running recognized as an official Olympic and Paralympic event at the Brisbane 2032 Games. His vision is to leverage the explosive growth in trail running, which now boasts an estimated 20 million participants worldwide according to World Athletics. With little more than a pair of running shoes and a dirt track, trail running is accessible to everyone, making it a fun and healthy sport that resonates with people of all backgrounds.
Mike’s mission is to grow the trail running community through care and support, emphasising the sport’s core values: immersion in nature and building social connections.
